While GBHT has focused on addressing the physical needs of the kids in Kibagare (provision of food, education financial support, tutoring, etc.), all GBHT ministry efforts include a spiritual emphasis. Children not only benefit in practical ways from GBHT’s ministry and support, but they are also introduced to Jesus in the process. In 2024, GBHT’s efforts to provide hope to the children it serves through spiritual transformation began to bear fruit: More than 50 children gave their lives to Christ as the direct result of GBHT’s ministry!
As more and more children began giving their lives to Christ, the need for GBHT to have a person devoted solely to being a spiritual shepherd as a full-time member of GBHT staff became obvious. Current staff members are at capacity administering the various other aspects of GBHT’s ministry. Thus, GBHT developed a job description for a Discipleship Coordinator as the next member of its staff. GBHT was ready to move forward to find the right person for this role, with funding for compensation being the only remaining issue. In a timely answer to prayer, Mercy Road Church Northeast in Fortville, Indiana, awarded a grant to GBHT that covers the first year of the Discipleship Coordinator’s compensation plus additional funding for discipleship curriculum development.
With a job description and finances in hand, GBHT was ready to find the right person for this new role. In another answer to prayer, GBHT connected with Patrick Modi in the interview process, and it quickly became apparent that Patrick was the right person for this role. Patrick came on board in late 2024 as GBHT’s first Discipleship Coordinator, and we are grateful to have him as part of our staff. In addition to being responsible for development of discipleship curriculum, Patrick will be the spiritual shepherd for the children GBHT serves — including not only the children in Kibagare but the children GBHT serves who live on the streets. Patrick will also assist in curriculum selection for the holiday VBS camps, and provide discipleship support and spiritual shepherding to GBHT’s other staff.
Patrick previously served as a volunteer teens and youth worker for 8 years, and he was then hired full time as a children and youth discipleship coordinator (similar to his role now). Patrick was a volunteer mentor at For the Boys organization, and he has worked with youth and teens in some capacity for 20 years. His favorite verses are Romans 12:16-18. When asked what inspires him in his work, Patrick responded that it is “seeing a soul happy and transformed.” In his free time, Patrick likes to research and learn new things.
Would you join us in regular prayer support for Patrick and for all of GBHT’s staff in Kenya as they labor for the kingdom of God in Nairobi? GBHT is blessed with competent staff members who fit together as a healthy team that is on mission. Welcome to GBHT, Patrick!
