In 2021, land and enough funds were donated to enable Giving Back Hope Together to build two buildings in the informal settlement where Sonny grew up. The establishment of a physical presence in this informal settlement has been a “game-changer” in the expansion of Giving Back Hope Together’s ministry efforts. Named the Hope Center, we are now able to provide after-school tutoring and mentoring to children in the community, and have a paid teacher on staff to lead that programming.
Children in the community are most at risk of running to the streets or otherwise acting at risk to themselves during public school breaks. During those breaks, we now conduct Vacation Bible Schools at the Hope Center for the children. During the first VBS, we planned to host up to 100 children, and more than 100 showed up. We currently are registering more than 300 children for each VBS. Your contributions to Giving Back Hope Together helps pay for staffing, curriculum and supplies, and food for one meal a day for these kids. The response from the community has been so positive that we are now challenged to determine how best to expand the Hope Center and the programming we provide through it.
